Overview

What Is FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI registration is a mandatory certification issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) for every Food Business Operator β€” from home kitchens to large manufacturers. It confirms your business meets food safety and hygiene standards and allows legal manufacture, storage, distribution or sale of food.

!

Operating without a valid FSSAI license is a punishable offence

Under Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, running a food business without FSSAI registration can attract a penalty of up to β‚Ή5,00,000 and imprisonment of up to 6 months. Marketplaces like Swiggy, Zomato and Amazon also require a valid FSSAI number before onboarding.

FAQs

Common Questions

Yes. Any business that manufactures, stores, distributes or sells food β€” including home kitchens and cloud kitchens β€” must hold at least Basic FSSAI Registration once it starts commercial operations.
You can choose a validity period of 1 to 5 years at the time of application. We recommend the maximum available tenure to reduce renewal effort and cost over time.
Once you cross β‚Ή12 lakh in annual turnover, you must upgrade to a State License. Under current FoSCoS rules, businesses that outgrow their category during the license term can transition to the next category without losing their existing license number.
No. DigiFiling is an independent, private compliance consultancy. We help you prepare and file your application correctly on the official FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in) and charge a separate professional service fee for this assistance.
Under Section 63 of the FSS Act, 2006, operating without a valid license can attract a fine of up to β‚Ή5,00,000 and imprisonment of up to six months, depending on the severity of the violation.
